Materials/Corrosion Engineering
Materials/Corrosion Engineering
Taku Engineering provides a comprehensive suite of materials and corrosion engineering services including integrity management plans, failure analysis, regulatory support, galvanic and impressed current cathodic protection design, and coating specifications. We regularly work with State and Federal regulators to ensure that the interests of our clients are well represented. Taku Engineering’s extensive integrity management and corrosion engineering experience combined with our in-house inspection services (API 653, API 570, STI, NACE certified technicians) make us uniquely qualified to provide materials and corrosion engineering services in remote arctic, sub-arctic, and logistically challenging locations.
Our Services
Taku Engineering is pioneering cutting edge technologies in the materials and corrosion engineering industry. Our practices ensure the collection of accurate data that maximizes our client’s resources. We efficiently and accurately assess the state of our client’s infrastructure and recommend the most direct and cost-effective means to meet our client’s requirements, schedule, and budget. Whether it’s a new or existing facility, our materials and corrosion engineering team can provide the fit-for-purpose design you need. Our engineers have a proven track record of completing logistically complex projects with a commitment to the health, safety, and environmental standards of our clients.
Our services include the following:
- Coatings
- Cathodic Protection
- Integrity Management
Coatings
Coatings systems are applied to concrete, steel, and other industrial building materials to improve performance and durability and to provide defense against corrosion. Industrial coatings can be broken into three main categories: metallic (ex. galvanized steel), organic (ex. polyester, polyurethane), and inorganic (ex. inorganic zinc, ceramic). Taku Engineer’s experienced staff is familiar with the strengths and weaknesses of the different coatings and works closely with our clients to recommend a system suitable for their unique needs. We can assist in every step of the process, from materials selection and specification development to contractor selection and field oversight. Our trained field Technicians and Engineers can support on-site data collection and application oversight to provide a quality coating system that protects your valuable assets and meets regulatory requirements.
Cathodic Protection
Cathodic protection systems are a proven form of corrosion mitigation. State and Federal regulations require CP systems to be designed by individuals that hold the NACE Cathodic Protection Specialist (CP4) certification. Taku Engineering has experienced NACE CP4 certified staff and the appropriate Professional Engineer license (Materials Engineering PE) to meet your design needs. Our trained field Technicians and Engineers can support on-site data collection and installation oversight to provide a quality CP system that protects your valuable assets and meets regulatory requirements.
Taku provides the following CP design services:
- Galvanic CP System Design
- Impressed Current CP (ICCP) System Design
- Marine CP System Design
- Pipe / Pipeline CP System Design
- Internal and External Tank CP System Design
- Clarifier CP System Design
Integrity Management
An Integrity Management Plan provides a system for risk analysis and mitigation, detailing how processes will be implemented every step of the way. The key components of any plan include assessment techniques, prevention and mitigation methods, and repair procedures. We maintain all the required Alaska Professional Engineering Licenses (Materials, Electrical, & Chemical) necessary to support our client’s integrity management needs. Additionally, we maintain a good working relationship with State and Federal regulators and are able to work with them to ensure the interests of our clients are well represented. Taku Engineering’s integrity management experience combined with our suite of inspection services makes us uniquely qualified to provide a comprehensive plan to protect our client’s infrastructure.
