Mechanical Engineering
Taku Engineering provides a comprehensive suite of mechanical engineering services including flow analysis, pipe sizing and stress analysis, freeze protection, equipment selection, water and steam boiler design, HVAC, and construction oversight and management. Our mechanical engineering team has a broad base of experience performing designs in remote arctic, sub-arctic, and logistically challenging locations.
We efficiently and accurately assess the state of our client’s infrastructure and recommend the most direct and cost-effective means to meet our client’s requirements, schedule, and budget. Whether it’s a new or existing facility, our mechanical team can provide the fit-for-purpose design you need.
Our Services
Taku Engineering’s mechanical team is experienced in a wide range of mechanical design services from energy recovery to HVAC to water and wastewater systems to process piping designs. Our engineers have a proven track record of completing logistically complex projects with a commitment to the health, safety, and environmental standards of our clients.
Our services include the following:
- Energy Recovery Systems
- Fuel Gas Process Design
- HVAC Systems
- Hydraulic Systems
- Process Piping Design
- Water and Wastewater Systems
HVAC Design
Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) is critically important to the performance of a building. An improperly designed HVAC system will increase costs over the building’s lifetime in wasted energy and productivity loss due to occupant discomfort. Taku uses modern modeling software, design techniques, and technologies to minimize wasted capital and operating costs. We have a long history designing HVAC systems throughout Alaska including commercial and industrial facilities that can handle the extreme climate of the state. We tailor each design to fit the needs of the client, whether that includes comfort, high-performance, low-maintenance, or support of industrial processes.
Our services include the following:
- Building Load Modeling
- Hydronic System Design
- Air Handling and Ducting Design
- Industrial Process Support
- Radiant Floors and Panels Design
- Hazardous Location Design
Piping Design
Pipes make up the backbone of utilities, industrial facilities, and commercial building systems. A properly designed piping system will outlast other major components within a facility. Taku Engineering’s team is experienced in piping systems for water, wastewater, fuel oil, natural gas, stormwater, steam & condensate, petrochemical, compressed air, and slurries. We are also experienced in pipeline accessories such as expansion joints and guides, pressure vessels, tanks, and pig launchers and receivers. We work closely with our client on new and retrofitted systems to determine the most cost-effective solution to meet their needs and find ways to make existing infrastructure work longer.
Our services include the following:
- Pipe Sizing, Layout, & Supports
- Material Selection
- Expansion Joints
- Pig Launchers & Receivers
- Pressure Vessels
- Tanks
- Pipe Inspections
Energy Recovery
Energy recovery is one of the most economical additions to any project. Recovery of otherwise wasted energy directly leads to reduced utility bills. Areas with high ventilation rates, excess reservoir pressures, cooperation with local utilities, and cogeneration facilities are prime targets for energy recovery. Whatever the form of energy, Taku Engineering can design a system to efficiently recover wasted energy to generate electricity or to provide heat.
Our services include the following:
- Generator Waste Heat Recovery
- Heat Recovery Ventilators
- Hydroelectric Power Systems
- Turbine Cogeneration
- Low Temperature Heat Recovery for Freeze Protection
- Heat Exchangers
Hydraulics
Hydraulics is an encompassing term dealing with the movement and pressure of fluids. Complicated piping arrangements can have unexpected performance issues with big consequences. This makes it crucial to have an experienced design team develop these systems. Hydraulic design can include small boiler loops to large municipal utility systems such as water distribution and district heating. Taku Engineering’s mechanical engineers have extensive experience designing hydraulic systems, modeling hydraulic systems, and working with viscous fluids and compressed gas systems.
Our services include the following:
- Pipe and equipment sizing
- Material Selection
- Municipal Utilities
- Water and Sewer
- Compressed Gasses
- Viscous Liquids
- Energy Recovery
Fuel Gas Process Design
Fuel gas systems are designed to provide treated, dry, low pressure gas to equipment such as a turbine generator, compressor package, or glycol generator. The gas may come from a natural gas supply line, off gas from a facility process, or a combination of both. In addition, fuel gas may be used to provide blanket gas in tanks or vessels or as supply gas to a flare stack pilot. Taku Engineering’s team has the experience in designing the piping and control systems required to maintain the gas consistency required for complex machinery. We work closely with our clients to deliver a system suitable to their specific needs, reliable in day-to-day operations, and providing a safe environment for operational activities. Additionally, we provide recommendations for routine inspection to maintain reliability and address any associated corrosion issues.
We offer experienced and expert mechanical engineering services across the state of Alaska.
